20 Hour Introductory Family History Package: This includes an initial discussion to determine an appropriate research goal or question, approximately 15 hours of research, and a final written report on research findings. This is a great way to answer a specific question, expand a family line, or just see what a professional genealogist can offer, and lets you walk away with a written report to share with your family and future generations.
Research Plan development: This includes an initial discussion to determine a general research goal or question, up to two hours of review of existing documentation provided by the client, and development of a research plan for further exploration. No additional research is completed during this period. You will receive a detailed report with an analysis of existing research and recommendations for continued research. Think of this as a “feasibility study” and a way to identify one or more specific and appropriate research goals or questions for future research.
Traditional Genealogy or Editing: This standard, non-package hourly rate includes development of research plans, research, analysis of findings, building out family trees, and final report writing. This may include limited analysis or explanation of DNA matches and ethnicity estimates from any of the major genealogy testing companies. This rate also includes reviewing, editing, and/or analyzing documents and reports prepared for publication to ensure accuracy and adherence to the Genealogical Proof Standard and/or specific publishing guidelines.
Investigative Genealogy: This hourly rate includes the same research as traditional genealogy, with the addition of investigative genealogy techniques that identify living or potentially living persons, such as adoption cases, heir research, or writing DNA proof arguments using DNA match lists.
Consultation Appointments: For those who want the experience and thrill of doing it yourself but need the help of a professional genealogist to determine next steps, talk through a proof argument, or brainstorm ways to overcome brick walls. What you want to accomplish during this time is up to you!
Record Search: For retrieval of records that are only available in-person at repositories within Washington State or northwest Oregon, or other repositories nationwide as available. This is record retrieval only and does not include analysis of the document or any final report. Additional costs may be incurred for administrative fees such as photocopies or mailing.
